E3 International has continued its support of the World Bank’s Smart Technology and Energy Efficient Production Program (STEP) program in Egypt to develop and implement minimum energy efficiency performance standards (MEPS) for electric motors. While past activity has established a comprehensive roadmap of the tasks and timing necessary to implement MEPS in Egypt and laid the groundwork for a functioning motors market when the standards are proposed to come into force in 2021, new activity will support the development of effective market surveillance mechanisms and institutions so that end users can trust claimed performance information and suppliers have the confidence to adapt their supply chains without fear of being undercut by poor products.
