E3 International is Achieving Impactful Results in Tunisia

March 2026 –  major milestone in Tunisia’s energy modernization journey has been achievedThe United States Government and the Republic of Tunisia have officially celebrated the commissioning of innovative American technological solutions in collaboration with Société Tunisienne de l’Électricité et du Gaz (STEG), Tunisia’s state-owned company responsible for electricity and natural gas production, distribution, and energy transition initiatives (STEG) within STEG’s electricity distribution network in Moknine. This marks the successful conclusion of a multi-year smart grid initiative delivered through a strong U.S.-Tunisian technological partnership facilitated by the United States Department of State (USDoS), supported by E3 International and its partners.

The Project

Under a contract with the USDoS, E3 International served as a key partner in the initiative, providing advisory and technical support—as lead contractor– alongside technology partners Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and G&W Electric and advisory partners Deloitte and EnerNex, working in close collaboration with the Government of Tunisia and STEG. Together, the team developed a smart grid roadmap for STEG and designed and deployed advanced smart grid solutions across STEG’s distribution network in the Moknine region, with the goal of improving the reliability, efficiency, and security of electricity supply for Tunisian businesses and communities.

 E3 International’s Contribution

Within this partnership, E3 International served as the primary advisory and implementation support partner, delivering across four key areas:

  • Grid modernization advisory — strategic guidance on infrastructure upgrades and system architecture
  • Advanced management systems — introduction of state-of-the-art energy and distribution management platforms
  • Capacity building — hands-on training for STEG engineers and operational personnel
  • Cybersecurity and operational best practices — strengthening supervision, control, and grid security protocols

 What Was Achieved

The commissioned system delivers tangible, lasting benefits to Tunisia’s power infrastructure: improved quality and reliability of electricity supply, optimized real-time balancing of production and demand, faster restoration of service following outages, and enhanced grid security through real-time system modeling.

A Replicable Model for the Region

The Moknine deployment is more than a local success — it represents a proven, replicable framework for smart grid modernization that other countries across the MENA region, and beyond, can draw on as they navigate their own energy transitions.

E3 International congratulates STEG, the Government of Tunisia, the U.S. Department of State, and partners SEL and G&W Electric on this landmark achievement. We are proud to have played a central role in bringing this vision to fruition.
