At COP26 in Glasgow, E3 International presented its flagship Sustainable Land, Livelihoods, and Energy Initiative (SLLEI)—a pioneering approach to low-carbon development tailored for the Western Balkans.
SLLEI promotes an integrated bioeconomy model that combines short-rotation energy crops, agroforestry, and forest restoration to supply clean biomass for district heating while revitalizing degraded land and supporting rural livelihoods. The initiative demonstrates how sustainable land use can contribute to energy transition goals, climate resilience, and local job creation. By aligning climate, energy, and rural development priorities, SLLEI offers a replicable framework for countries across the region. At COP26, E3I emphasized the importance of community-led, Paris-aligned solutions that advance just and inclusive transitions throughout the Western Balkans.
