The USAID Administrator, Ms. Samantha Power, along with the Better Energy COP, Ms. Lena Bratic, and the USAID delegation, visited the City of Nis and Nis DHP (JKP “Grejanje” Niš) on 11 May 2023. In the past few years, USAID has invested over $300,000 in Nis DHP under two projects: Serbian Energy Efficiency Activity (implemented by Tetra Tech and E3 International) and Better Energy (implemented by Chemonics International and E3 International), resulting in significant energy and monetary savings and contributing to the overall operational improvement of the Nis’ district heating system.
USAID Administrator, Samantha Power, said, “We all know that that ultimately the energy solutions for all countries will involve renewable energy that will help us protect the climate and stop a climate change that is causing a lot of damage. In the meantime, as the transition occurs, these kinds of steps that USAID and the district heating leadership are working on together achieve many things at once.”
Nis DHP Manager, Predrag Milacic, said, “It is a great honor and privilege to receive the visit of such a high-ranking official, the Chief Administrator of the USAID, in the year in which we celebrate our 50th anniversary. USAID has been very important for the development of the Nis’ district heating plant over the past few years. Of course, the financial support they have provided to us is also significant – over $300,000 in the previous four years. Perhaps even more significant has been the consultancy support, where together with the experts engaged by USAID, we have developed projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing the negative impact on the environment. In general, working with the USAID consultants has shown us that we, as a company, are on the right track.
